Album review: JIZZY PEARL – All You Need Is Soul

JIZZY PEARL - All You Need Is Soul

Frontiers [Release date 11.05.18]

Love/Hate front man Jizzy Pearl is a man that is one of the last of a dying breed. He IS rock n roll. Having fronted Ratt, LA Guns, Adler’s Appetite and Quiet Riot people seem to unfairly criticise him for this rather than remember the handful of albums he made with Love/Hate or the trio of solo albums he has released.

So we get to 2018 and the release of latest album “All You Need Is Soul”. Well, this one has been worth the wait. The clever lyrics are there throughout, the album’s artwork has a familiar theme to it and the guitars are all handled by one time Love/Hate bandmate Darren Householder. In short, “All You Need Is Soul” can stand head and shoulders with those early Love/Hate albums.

There is an almost ‘70’s Aerosmith groove to “Coming Home To The Bone”, album opener “You’re Gonna Miss Me When I’m Gone” is classic Jizzy whilst “It Doesn’t Matter” is not his usual style and should immediately be released as a single.

“Mortified”, “Mr Jimmy” and “When The Devil Knows” could actually be old school Love/Hate songs, the album had a solid first single in title track “All You Need Is Soul” and then you get tracks like “Frustrated” and “You Don’t Know What It’s Like”- albums like this just don’t come along very often these days.

By doing things his way throughout his career, Jizzy Pearl hasn’t had to conform to modern trends and therefore has not alienated his fans over the years. If you were lucky enough to catch any of his recent UK shows you will have noticed this, if you weren’t, he’s coming back this November.  ****
