Album review: LUKE JACKSON – Journals

LUKE JACKSON - Journals

First Take [Release date 08.11.19]

Luke Jackson returns with his fifth album where he is joined by Andy Sharps on bass and Elliott Norris on drums, with both adding harmony vocals. Luke Jackson tackles a number of subjects on the album, be it the state of the world on ‘Baby Boomers’ and the future babies born now will have, or a song for her paternal ‘Nan’ on ‘A Queen In Her Own Way’.

It is Jackson’s versatility that makes this album a winner. He does a novel love song ‘Cherry Picker’, where the man woos the lady with aforementioned cherry picker. As Jackson says it does ‘Nought to thirty in half a mile’ and she can charge her mobile in the cab, what girl could refuse that?! A light hearted piece of blues and good fun.

‘Every Flame’ is another song worth a special mention, dealing with how he intends to carry on making music (and to be fair with his talent he deserves plenty of success). The marvellous harmonies plus his solo vocal are simply breath-taking.

He certainly shows belief in his own ability when tackling the Sandy Denny classic ‘Who Knows Where The Time Goes?’ All I can say on this is ‘wow’ – his vocal is hauntingly beautiful and does credit to the song.

Aside from his singing and songwriting talents, he also a decent guitarist laying down a few classy solos throughout the course of the album.

Luke Jackson has a lot to say via his songs and certainly lives up to the plaudits he has earned to date for his song writing. ****
