Black Lesion are a three-piece hard-rock band from Edinburgh, who had managed a few live dates under their belts before the pandemic struck. It is very frustrating and sad in equal measures that bands, particularly up and coming ones, can’t be out there performing live and winning over new fans. Still, not to be downhearted Black Lesion are about to unleash their rather good EP upon us.
They certainly pack a punch for a three piece – you’d think listening to this they had a least two guitarists. The production is spot on, with the drums in particular coming through loud and clear.
‘Anomaly’ and ‘Sins’ are the stand outs, bangers if you will. Plenty of riffing aggression, vocally reminding me of Depeche Mode’s Dave Gahan for some reason! Modern rock fans will like Black Lesion for their breakdowns, mosh pit friendly riffing, whilst older rockers like me will revel in the harmonies and the sheer wall of noise this three piece make.
Not overtly metal, although there is a little screamo on one song, more down the Foo Fighters and Soundgarden schools of rock. They have a little bit of grunge in their mix, no bad thing.
Black Lesion, get in early with this lot as they have the tunes and talent to succeed. Impressive. ****
