Mercury Studios [Release date 09.07.21]
Originally released on DVD in 2007, this Rolling Stones release has been remixed, re-mastered, re-edited and re-released. At the time The Stones were touring in support of their recent “A Bigger Bang” album and this 2006 show on Rio’s Copacabana Beach was one of the largest free concerts ever staged and had an estimated audience of 1.5 million people. Just let that sink in for a minute, 1.5 million people!!!!
Four tracks that did not feature on the original concert film are included and so we now find “Tumbling Dice”, “Oh No, Not You Again”, “This Place Is Empty”, and “Sympathy For The Devil” alongside other fan favourites such as “Jumping Jack Flash”, “Wild Horses”, “Miss You”, “Brown Sugar” and “Honky Tonk Woman”.
As a huge fan of the band I am pleased to also see “Get Off My Cloud” making an appearance in the set list, as this set is a fine balance of nostalgia and recent material with a stage show that keeps the band ahead of any others that would dare to attempt to steal their crown. The show itself is everything that you would expect from The Stones and that combined with the spectacular setting makes this a show the likes of which we are not likely to see again,
“A Bigger Bang live on Copacabana Beach” is available in a number of formats including DVD, Blu-ray, DVD+2CD, Blu-ray+2CD, 2DVD+2CD Deluxe, 2 Blu-ray+2CD Deluxe and vinyl. The deluxe editions also include The Stones November 2005 Salt Lake City show.
No matter whether you have seen this concert film in its original format or not, this new version is well worth a watch. Go on, treat yourself. ****
