Album review: SOUNDSCAPISM INC. – Staring Down On Incandescent Cities

SOUNDSCAPISM INC. - Staring Down On Incandescent Cities

EtherealSoundWorks [Release date 20.07.23]

Fifth album by Soundscapism Inc., the musical project created by Bruno A, who handles the production and the majority of the instruments on the album, along with composing all the music and writing the lyrics (save for one co-write with Manuel Costa). Vocalist Amado Peiró returns  with a rhythm section consisting of Anethama drummer Daniel Cardoso and six string bass player Manuel Costa (who has become the second official member of Soundscapism Inc.).

Soundscapism Inc.’s last album ‘Afterglow Of Ashes’ was a real treat for listening on headphones, full of melodies and sounds you discovered more of on each subsequent play. This latest album continues in that style, with perhaps a bit more guitar crunch on the excellent two-parter ‘Cautionary Pale’.

Similar to artists like The Fierce & The Dead, Opeth and Anathema, a tune like ‘Molecular Sun’ has the chance to appeal outside the usual prog rock & ambient music crowd. At the ‘trippier’ end of the scale ‘Azul Deveras’ whisks the listener away, whilst ‘Curtain Call’ features gentle guitar playing and electronica a la Massive Attack.

For those who like to really get lost in the music, Soundscapism Inc. allow you to do just that. Progressive and ambient, always melodic, another winner from the band. ***1/2
