EP review: DANDELION CHARM – Riding The Flood

www.dandelioncharm.com/

Riding The Flood is a new five-track EP from Newhaven-based duo Dandelion Charm, who comprise of John and Clare Fowler. Clare Flowler says that ‘the themes we deal with in our songs are not frivolous ones. They are all about aspects of real life, things that we’ve seen or been part of.’

‘September’ features both of them using their melodic vocals to great effect on the harmonies. They have been compared to Fleetwood Mac and listening to this song it is easy to see why.

‘Riding The Flood’ where John Fowler takes the lead vocal has an air of Pink Floyd and Camel in the sound, impressive for sure. ‘The Spark’ deals with addiction and the music and vocals combine to a frenzied climax, a song that is the ‘heaviest’ on the EP.

‘The Great Believer’ again recalls latter day Pink Floyd with a touch of folk in the mix. ‘Wraith’ is written from the perspective of the carer who is a witness to the intense and relentless fall out of child abuse. An intense subject matter and the lyrics and music match this, with some haunting piano and aggressive guitar riffs. Again the Fowler’s harmonies are spot on and a delight on the ears.

They combine prog, folk and rock influences into an entertaining and enthralling mix. Dandelion Charm have the songs and talent to appeal to not only prog and folk fans, but anyone who enjoys strong songwriting with blissful vocals and melodies. ****
