BAD TOUCH – Strut
Norfolk’s favourite retro rockers are back with this delicious little slab of bluesy classic rock. Perfectly titled, the track rolls along, boasting some really great little classic 70’s and 80’s touches and is the most mature release by these rising stars yet. Modern yet timeless, they’ll rock you and save your soul.
DEEP PURPLE – Throw My Bones
Few bands are more legendary than Purple and, whilst most of their peers seem intent on resting on their laurels, the quintet is constantly writing and releasing fine new material. Lead track from the forthcoming ‘Whoosh!’ album, this is no exception and sees ‘new boys’ Steve Morse and Don Airey firing on all cylinders in this infinitely classy, heavy duty number. Gillan, Glover and Paice way outshine artists half their age and with a track this good the legacy is most definitely intact and gleaming as brightly as ever.
ALTER THE SKY – Sanctuary
If you like your metal piledriving, pounding and packed with attitude you can’t go wrong with the Cambridge five piece. Sprinkled with a hint of the NWOBHM, this is built for both speed and comfort, Hel’s untamed vocals powering it along whilst guitars lacerate and the singalong chorus will get you every time. Old school fun, given a modern polish, what more could you want?
VEGA – Grit Your Teeth
Hard as nails melodic rock has been a key feature in the success of Vega since their inception eleven years ago. This opening salvo from their soon to be released new album sees the boys on epic form, making the same, hook-filled arena-filling noise that has made Joe Elliott and Co so huge. It’s only a matter of time before Vega join the Sheffield boys in treading those same boards and ‘Grit Your Teeth’ is a statement of intent if ever there was one.
FAR FROM REFUGE – Kingdom (featuring Edenveil)
You know that some bands, from the very first time you hear them, are destined to be huge. With incendiary live shows and some incredible releases already behind them, Far From Refuge look poised to smash into the mainstream with this tumultuous track that sees them ably and perfectly joined by the wonderful Edenveil. Technical Metalcore at its finest, ‘Kingdom’ offers brilliant light and shade, at once soothing and then switching to tear the flesh from your face. Beautiful and brutal.
OLLIE TREVERS – IKYK (I Know You Know)
Sounding like a party between Prince, Fleetwood Mac and Muse, Ollie Trevers blends all these various influences into a funky, California cool enchilada of rocking goodness. It twists, it turns, it will get you dancing and wearing a hole in your carpet with its slicing guitars and soaring vocals. Better check your house insurance before playing it.
LAST OF THE MISFIT HEROES – Misfit Misplaced EP
We all want to smash things up occasionally don’t we, be it from frustration, anger or pent up energy. It can be cathartic, not just destructive. LotMH have now provided the perfect soundtrack to any baseball
swinging activities you care to indulge in as the four tracks enclosed in this EP contain enough urgent, indie-tinged rock energy to level a house. ‘Misfit, Misplaced’, ‘Pieces’, ‘Wake Up Call’ and ‘When My Empire Falls’ bubble and blister with punk rock attitude matched with classic, big songwriting sensibilities that provide both the sound and the fury. Intelligent, tuneful and fierce.
