Mighty Music [Release date 16.10.20]
With worldwide lockdowns and the inability to get out on tour many bands over the last few months have taken to the studio as a refuge from the real world. As a result of this many new albums are now surfacing and as such it takes something special to stand out and grab your attention, this debut from Danish rockers Silvera does just that and then some!
From the opening chords of ‘Alive’ to the closing notes of ‘Promise’ this album rocks hard and heavy blending together elements of Alterbridge, Nickelback and Silvera’s Danish brethren Volbeat. Big riffs and soaring melodies are the order of the day and, given this is the band’s debut release, the musicianship throughout is highly impressive.
Opener ‘Alive’ is built on a huge riff provided by dual guitars of Michael Krogh and Simon Nilsson Krabbemark. Michael also provides the lead vocals and has a strong, sonorous delivery which easily matches the bombastic riffs. ‘Something Else’ follows in the same vein replete with killer chorus and solid rhythm section.
The album title track follows and takes the pace down a little but the track is no less effective, again its all about the chorus, this is set to be a live favourite when gigs can once again take place. The pace is then upped once more for ‘No Air’, again the guitar work is top notch as is the album production which is crystal clear and brings out the best in the band’s sound.
Other album highlights include the brooding riff of ‘Generation Z’, ‘The Reckoning’ which features a great melody and impressive drumming from Jens Gade and album closer ‘Promise’ which rounds things of in rocking style. Another track of note is ‘Everything We Do’ which features Kobra Paige from Kobra and The lotus on vocal duties to great effect.
Silvera have managed to release an album that sounds like it has come from a long established, arena headlining band rather than this being a debut release. With talent in spades, great musicianship and song writing ability it is a fairly safe bet to say that the guys will find themselves in that headlining position in the near future, impressive stuff. *****
