MARK SPIRO – It's A Beautiful Life

Mark Spiro returns with his first new album since 2005's 'Mighty Blue Ocean'. He is most probably known more for his film songs outside of AOR/melodic rock circles, with hits like 'Mighty Wings' (performed by Cheap Trick) of 'Top Gun' and 'Day After Day' (performed by Julian Lennon) in the film 'Music From Another Room'.

This new album may please and disappoint fans in equal measure. The pleasure is hearing a new album from him and slight disappointment in that it is very laid back AOR and in parts country ('I Know Who I Love'). In fact he only really rocks out on 'Might As Well Be Me', a classic melodic rocker with a strong chorus and perfect for a summer's day. As ever he weaves a few stories in his songs from uprooting your life – the title track- and the tale of a dancer who never got their chance in the limelight – 'Dance The Lonely Spotlight'. One slight quibble is I am sure some of vocals have been auto tuned and one song uses some dodgy dance like beats to start it off.

For an enjoyable laid back melodic rock/AOR album look no further but I would have liked a little more rock.
