KEYSTONE – Flight To Paradise

Park Records www.myspace.com/keystonerocks

Now this self-produced and independently released CD tweaked the old interest as Robert Berry was involved (Three/Alliance), although on closer inspection of the credits he only adds backing vocals (along with bass/drums/Hammond/keys) and doesn’t get a lead vocal which is a shame. The main driver behind this album is Patrick Kreisl, who was in long lost prog rockers Crybaby and he takes all the lead vocals, bar two where female vocalist Kira Krakpvesky takes over.

The main problem with this album is twofold. Firstly, the vocals I am not a big fan – not quite powerful enough and secondly the real mix of musical styles on here. There is the Boston like ‘Flight To Paraside’, the best song on here, but then you have ‘With You’ and ‘Walk Away’, the two female fronted songs, that sound way to modern compared to the rest of the album. It is almost as if a showcase has been tagged into the album.’Kiss And Say Goodbye’ and ‘Song On The Radio’ are good melodic songs, similar to something Lynn Allen would do.

There is a truly awful live recording of ‘Shadow Of The Night’, which would be better at the end of the CD rather than midway through. The cover of the Sweet classic ‘Little Willy’ is forgettable as well sadly.

Try the MySpace site for a taster as it may appeal to some but not for me I am afraid…
