RINGO STARR & THE ROUNDHEADS – Live (DVD)

Recorded back in 2005 at the Genesee Theatre in Waukegan, Illinois as part of the Soundstage series of live concerts it finally gets a UK release a couple years after the US one. Normally Ringo Starr appears with his All Starr Band but the Roundheads may lack the big name status but are still top draw musicians.

The setlist is a mix of Beatles classics penned by Ringo Starr, including a rare outing for ‘Octopus’s Garden’ and his solo songs. Of the solo songs ‘Photograph’ is one of his best tunes and ‘Who Can It Be Now?’ features Colin Hay of Men At Work fame on lead vocals. The Beatles songs tend to get the biggest cheers of the night especially the big sing-a-long on ‘Yellow Submarine’.

Clear sound and pictures throughout although on this review copy there are no extras so not sure if there are any on the proper edition. As he is away from the All Starr Band he can play more solo songs as the various members of the All Starr Band all get the chance to play one or two of their hit songs. The night is rounded of by ‘With A Little Help From My Friends’, a perfect end to a very enjoyable live set.

Bound to be on the shopping lists of Beatles and Ringo fans plus worth a look for those who enjoy a good live set with musical variety.
