A Silent Escape – A Silent Escape (S-a-N PR)
A Silent Escape are a new Swedish quartet who bring together the pop punk melodies of Millencolin and Alkaline Trio and add a harder, nu metal edge to the package. It all works to a certain degree, but at some points the mix of the two styles doesn’t make for the easiest of bedfellows.
Most tracks though work well, vocalist Patrick Stenborg has not a bad voice on him, although he does slip into shouty mode a bit too readily for my liking and musically the rest of the band put in a good shift. On tracks like ‘ Blackhole Gravity’ and ‘Final Chapter’ though you get the distinct feeling that you have heard it all before, the songs are well written and well played, but originality has been posted missing.
This is a decent effort, just not the most satisfying of platters. They appear to suffer a bit from a split personality, but neither really stands out enough to grab you by the throat, it certainly didn’t grab me.

Limozine – Full Service
I like a bit of garage punk and London outfit Limozine play just that. Taking their cues from The Cramps and The Stooges, their short, punchy tracks are an entertaining listen. This is the band’s third album and it contains some excellent, dumb ass rock n roll.
Songs like ‘Siamese Twins’ and ‘Surfin’ In The Dark’ certainly wouldn’t gain entry to MENSA, but they are highly infectious and the band’s slightly shambolic delivery and attitude make them sound the real deal. I reckon they would be a blast live after a few beers. Best song though was the epic of the album, clocking in at a whopping 3.09 minutes ‘Hotel TV Swimming Pool’ is a sleazy rocker of the first degree.
Limozine make music for dingy clubs with sticky floors and for people who enjoy a few beers and straightforward rock n roll, sounds like a plan to me.

Tricorn – Tricorn( Need Sleep Records )
One phrase on the bands biog jumped out at me and sums up the band’s sound in a simple phrase “scuzzy riffage”. Think QOTSA coupled with a bit of Sabbath and Clutch and you are heading in the right direction.
Big, low tuned riffs are the key here, this is classic heavy rock with no airs or graces. The title of opener ‘Step Outside’ appears to be apt, judging by the sound of the album you wouldn’t want to spill the band’s collective pint or that might just be the offer you get. Album highlights are ‘ Crawl’ which has a powerful, driving riff and ‘Give Me Some More’ which has a great, memorable melody.
The band are from Portsmouth and if you google ‘Tricorn’ it comes up with two things, a three cornered hat or a rather grim looking shopping complex that once inhabited the centre of said town. I assume the latter inspired the band name as it fits nicely, the shopping centre was made of solid slabs of solid concrete, much like the riffs here and both are firmly rooted in the 70’s. Hopefully the band will have a brighter future than the now demolished complex had !
