OSI Fire Make Thunder Review‏

Combining prog legends Jim Matheos (Fates Warning) and Kevin Moore (Chroma Key and ex-Dream Theater) not only sounds stellar on paper, but actually surpasses words to it’s awesomeness in reality. This, my fine readers is progressive music at its finest! Metal Blde artist OSI’s latest album Fire Make Thunder, their fourth, continues to astound and amaze.

One would expect that some of the sounds of both members prior work would seep into OSI, but on the contrary it’s as if they go to great lengths to distance themselves from those connections. If one were to compare them to someone musically Tool would come to mind first, but that’s not exactly right either. Truth be told, beyond perhaps Chroma Key, there really isn’t anyone that sounds like OSI. And that’s just alright with me. With funky and chaotic tracks like “Guards” that leads into a heavy groove through out and the lush and lovely “Indian Curse” to the rhythmically haunting and quiet “Wind Won’t Howl” runs through every spectrum of emotions. Even the vocals, an odd mixture of Alan Parsons meets Roger Waters provided by Kevin Moore, not known as a singer, truly set the band apart from so many in this genre making them truly unique.

There’s not really much more that can be said. This is a prog rock masterpiece. If you’re a fan of the style and already familiar with this band, what the hell are you waiting for? Get Fire Make Thunder now!
