PAUL BRADY – Dancer In The Fire: A Paul Brady Anthology

Paul Brady got his first big break in Planxty, a band that also spawned successful solo careers of Any Irvine and Christy Moore amongst others. This two CD anthology is hand picked by Brady and covers songs not already featured on the 1999 ‘best of’ and his sleeve notes hit the nail on the head saying it is an eclectic collection.

His late 70′s/early 80′s songs either cover a traditional folk sound like on ‘Paddy’s Green Shamrock Shore’ or a laid back 70′s AOR/West Coast feel like ‘The Road To The Promised Land’. In fact on ‘Blue World’ he produced a real Toto-esque tune no doubt helped by having Toto members Jeff Porcaro and David Paich plus top session guitarist Michael Landau guesting on the song. The later years feature a mix of sleek acoustic songs and the lovely ‘Believe In Me’, co-written with Carole King.

Paul Brady is one of those artists who may not be a household name but has carved a successful career and produced a fine set of songs through the years. This anthology and the 1999 ‘best of’ are the best places to start if you are new to his music.
