Stone Temple Pilots – Alive In The Windy City

Eagle Vision 2012

Surprisingly, this is Stone Temple Pilots first official live DVD release of their career and it is well worth the wait. Recorded in Chicago in March 2010, this show captures the band in fine form. The set list is mostly a greatest hits package supplemented with tracks from their then newly released self-titled album.

The DVD opens with ‘Vasoline’ and you can see from the off that the large crowd were loving every minute. The focal point on stage is the lithe and wiry frontman Scott Weiland, who twists and turns his way through each number and still manages to put in an excellent vocal performance. The rest of the band are no slouches either with first class playing throughout, especially guitarist Dean DeLeo who is even better than I remember, his solo passage at the end of the song ‘Creep’ is a joy to behold.
Visually you get the band playing against a backdrop of video screens which are used to good effect through each track, but it is the group performance and obvious onstage vibe that makes this DVD compelling viewing. With tracks like ‘Interstate Love Song’, ‘Sex Type Thing’ and the magnificent ‘Plush’ this is excellent viewing for either the dedicated fan or for someone curious to see what STP have to offer. On this viewing I doubt either would be disappointed.
