The Dark Sinatras – Sick Society

The Dark Sinatras – Sick Society

Defectoscope Sounds 2012

The Dark Sinatras first got together in Russian punk clubs where singer, guitarist and song writer, Mark White was performing. Joined by some like-minded bodies they undertook to record this album amongst other projects.

The results of their labours are a bit challenging to be honest. The album sounds like the result of some arthouse project with rough indie rock overlaid with almost spoken lyrics, a bit like Nick Cave in fact, but without the black humour. Three of the tracks though stand out but for all the wrong reasons, ‘IPD’ and ‘The Sins Of Ignorance’ are monologues with what sounds like an orchestra tuning up in the background whilst ‘No Measure’ finishes the album off with around three minutes of white noise.

There is only an F between art and fart and ultimately it is down to the listener to decide. For me though the F was firmly in place as this is a bit of a stinker.
