LITA FORD – Living Like A Runaway

 SPV/Steamhammer 2012

“Living Like A Runaway” is the powerful, return to form new album from Lita Ford. Following 2009’s near miss “Wicked Wonderland” the album, her 8th as a solo artist, is a straight ahead rock record packed with decent tracks. With a recent messy divorce from Jim Gillette (ex-Nitro) fuelling the subject material, the songs are at times intense and personal- they are also some of Ford’s best work for years.

The 10 tracks on the standard edition of the album were co-written and produced by guitarist Gary Hoey and are of a consistently high standard. Tracks such as “Branded”, “Hate” and “The Mask” appear to have an obvious target in Gillette, whilst “Mother” is a song to Ford’s two sons- the actual story behind this not a good one, and the choice to cover these subjects shows the strength and resilience in her character.

Other tracks include “Asylum” with its atmospheric opening, “Devil In My Head” – which is musically reminiscent of Ozzy Osbourne’s late ‘80’s output, “Love 2 Hate U” and the Nikki Sixx penned “Songs To Slit Your Wrists By”. The album’s title track “Living Like A Runaway”, meanwhile, is a healthy nod back to her Runaways roots.

As well as being a solid comeback effort, this album will hopefully prove as a cathartic exercise for Lita Ford. Touring with Def Leppard and Poison this summer will put her back in front of large audiences and will help resurrect the career of a true survivor.

The limited digipack version of the album, iTunes edition and double vinyl release all come with different bonus tracks.
