Dawn Chrorus 2012
Syd Arthur are a young up and coming band who have been described as being part of the next generation of the early ‘70’s Canterbury scene of whimsical very-English prog bands such as Caravan, Camel and Soft Machine. The “Syd” part of the name is an obvious reference to Syd Barrett of Pink Floyd but the “Arthur” is a more obscure reference to a 1969 album by the Kinks.
Based in Kent the band consists of Liam Magill (guitar, vocals), Raven Bush (violin), Joel Magill (bass) and Fred Rother (drums). The band’s claim to fame is that Raven Bush is the nephew of the wonderful (and Kent gal herself) Kate Bush.
The whole album sounds very similar to me with no track actually standing out or having anything memorable. Everything has a late sixties, early seventies folk/jazz/prog vibe which often reminds me of something from that musical “Hair”…
Well played and pleasant enough album but not my cup of tea at all…the whole album just drifted me by in a haze…
