Razor & Tie 2012
Dee Snider is the voice of Twisted Sister and Desperado, as well as a dramatist in horror films. What one would not expect is for Mr Snider to release an album of show tunes (then again, Twisted Sister did release a Christmas album), but this is exactly what he did!
It just goes to show that Dee is taking this seriously, with band members like Bob Kulick (guitar) and Rudy Sarzo (bass) lending their talents to this work. This first thing one must keep in mind is that this is Dee doffing his cap to Broadway, the dramatic side of his persona. He sounds energetic and genuinely pleased on “Cabaret”, the album opener. There are other eye-opening renditions of “Sweeney Todd”, “Mack the Knife” and “Music of the night”, to name a few.
Honestly, you’re either going to love it or hate it. Snider and guests (and there are a few) do a good job paying tribute to the legends of Broadway, with a rocking flavour, which may provide a good education to youngsters who know less and less about music nowadays. Enjoyable to those with an open mind.
