Stone Temple Pilots – Alive In The Windy City

Eagle Vision 2012

When Stone Temple Pilots reconvened in 2008 following a five year hiatus, I for one had high hopes for any resulting new album, and I wasn’t disappointed by 2010’s self titled album. New DVD “Alive In The Windy City” was recorded in Chicago shortly before the release of the album and finds the band in good form. Vocalist Scott Weiland is, well, trademark Scott Weiland and for that you cannot fault him, the rhythm section of Robert DeLeo (bass) and Eric Kretz (drums) are solid throughout and guitarist Dean DeLeo is everything you would expect.

Throughout the band’s eighteen song set they mix brand new songs such as “Between The Lines”, “Bagman”, the Bowie like “Hickory Dichtomy” and “Huckleberry Crumble” with classics like “Dead and Bloated”, “Crackerman”, “Sex Type Thing” and “Vasoline”. The ultimate highlights though are “Tripping on a Hole in a Paper Heart”, “Hollywood Bitch”, “Plush” and “Piece of Pie”.

When Stone Temple Pilots came onto the scene they were miles ahead of their peers and, as such, are one of the few bands from that era that still sound credible today. Looking at the show you can’t help but notice that front man Scott Weiland seems a lot more comfortable onstage these days than he has for the last few years, maybe he feels he is back where he has always belonged?
