THE KENNEDYS – Closer Than You Think

www.kennedysmusic.com

Husband and wide duo Pete and Maura have released a string of albums to date, as well as being part of Nanci Griffith’s backing band. This is their first album to get a proper PR push here in the UK and recent touring with Nanci Griffith will have increased the exposure to their music.

Handling all the vocals and instruments themselves they create an impressive musical backdrop. There is the acoustic splendour of ‘Winter’, then the uplifting ‘I’ll Come Over’, like a female REM if you can imagine such a thing. They show their love of pop rock with a tribute to Big Star and Alex Chilton on ‘Big Star Song’. Pete nails the Big Star guitar sound on the solos. ‘Rhyme And Reason’ could easily grace the Bob Harris show on BBC Radio 2. Their strength is in the vocals of Maura coupled with the varying guitar styles her other half Pete creates.

Based on this album I can’t see the Kennedys remaining an undiscovered treasure for much longer.
