Here’s an interesting fact for you, back in 1926 Violet Gibson tried to assassinate Benito Mussolini, she failed of course, only injuring his nose. For this , Violet spent the rest of her days in an insane asylum. History lesson over.
Violet Gibson 2012 style though, are an Italian post grunge outfit and are rather good. ‘American Circus’ opens with ‘Go Ahead’ which sounded like Bush and didn’t really inspire, listen further though and things get a bit heavier with more of a Stone Temple Pilots vibe .
The title track is a good case in point, featuring strong melodies and some driving guitar work from the two guitarists Gabriele Tassara and Giovanni Marchi. As well as the 12 original compositions there is also a rather excellent cover of Stevie Wonder’s ‘Superstition’ which has been covered many times with varying degrees of success, here the band manage to do the track justice.
According to the album blurb, this debut took two years to write and record, the results though were worth the effort. I would recommend you track down Violet Gibson, just make sure it’s not the gun-toting version !
