Frontiers Records 2012
Frontiers Records roster tends to focus more on established melodic rock names, albeit often in new combinations, so it is a pleasure to
see them put their weight behind a new name. Anders Wigelius is a Swede in his early 20’s who came to attention singing Don’t Stop Believin on a Swedish TV show but according to the press release grew up on a diet of Richard Marx, Journey and Foreigner. The album is also a family affair with brother Erik on drums.
It is a promising first effort, with the usual effortless melodic
sensibility of Scandinavian AOR acts and Anders has the perfect voice for the material, pitched somewhere between Richard Marx and Eric Martin.
The material is similar to, though not as good as, Work of Art in
places such as on the stylish Next to You, and the Journey-esque Too Young to Fall in Love, while the Toto comparisons are strengthened by songs with girls names in- Angeline and Cassandra respectively. However it was the rockier number like Piece of the Action Right Here Right and Now Hold on to love that made the strongest impact on me. My biggest reservation is that he has yet to establish an identity of his own.
The fame show trajectory seems more rock friendly in Scandinavia and worked for Erik Gronwall who is now fronting Heat. With this album Anders Wigelius has made a significant step in establishing his credibility as an artist to watch.
