Tommy ReinXeed is a busy man. Having been involved in his own band, ReinXeed, he has also been feverishly working on Golden Resurrection and other projects. Now, he takes more of a back seat as he plays drums and provides additional background vocals, guitars and keyboards. He is also the producer for this work!

The kingpins for this project, though, are ReinXeed guitarists Calle Sundberg and Mattias Johansson. Charlie Shred’s self-titled debut is power metal with an edgier sound than that of ReinXeed, although Sundberg’s vocals sound uncannily like Michael Eden. There is a Bay Area thrash influence from the 80’s apparent here (“Game over”), while there are more mid-tempoed songs (“Welcome to hell”) which are also enjoyable.

Fine Swedish power metal with an edge. Charlie Shred can go places.
