BACHMAN & TURNER – Live at the Roseland Ballroom, NYC

BluRay DVD Eagle Vision

What can I say, another quality release from Eagle Vision. This live DVD from Randy Bachman and Fred Turner was filmed in 2010 and features material from their recently released self titled album, along with songs from their well establish back catalogue plus The Guess Who’s “American Woman” and a cover of Johnny Kidd’s “Shakin’ All Over”- both of which are a revisit to Bachman’s early career.

With a great backing band behind them and with neither Bachman or Turner appearing anywhere near their advancing years, this 20 song set rips along. Opening track “Let It Ride”, the big slow and bluesy “Waiting Game” and “Looking Out For #1”, a rousing version of “American Woman” and “That’s What It Is” are all great performances and then you get a five song blast that includes recent single “Rollin’Along”, “Shakin’ All Over”, “Roll On Down The Highway”, “Takin’ Care of Business” and, of course, “You Ain’t Seen Nothin’ Yet”. It is at this point that you realise that this is a master class in how to put on a simple rock show, without big stage effects and visuals and still make it feel like a stadium gig.

The only slightly disappointing thing about this DVD/BluRay release is the lack of extras. Whilst the show itself is a real must have for fans, an interview with the band or some archive footage would have been a nice.
