London based 4 piece Bluesmix, like the Ronseal ad, do what they say on the tin. The guys play an effortless, laid back blues, which has a late night, smokey bar ambience infused into each track.
The band play a mix of traditional blues mixed with horns, a bit of jazz and a touch of downtown New Orleans which keeps things interesting. ‘Flat Nine‘ is Bluesmix’s third album and having toured extensively as both headliners and as support to the likes of Amy Winehouse and Jools Holland they are as tight as a duck posterior. Vocalist Rob Fleming has a real blues tone with just an edge of harshness, which gives an authentic trad. blues feel. The two tracks that stood out for me were the shuffling blues of ‘Magnetise’ and ‘Heartbreaker’ which is a fast paced blues/jazz workout.
This is a good chill out album, one to kick back to, wine in hand, after a long day. Well played blues from a talented bunch that know their stuff.
