Blackburner is the brainchild of Skyla Talon who fuses industrial rock, prog and metal with genres such as electro, dubstep (the latest genre loved by Muse amongst others) along with drum and bass. He has previously worked on Rob Zombie guitarist Riggs’ ‘Scum Of The Earth’ and toured alongside acts such as Type O Negative and Hatebreed. Now you will need a broad listening palate to enjoy this album but it is worth your effort.
William Shatner guests on the opener ‘Planet Earth Attack’, although only adding spoken word snippets on this occasion and not singing. If you can’t really stand the dance/rap beats of say ‘I Got The Key’ redemption is at hand with a novel take on the Pink Floyd classic ‘Comfortably Numb’. Chris Squire and Billy Sherwood provide the song’s backbone with added electronica and dub. It works and you can check this song out on You Tube. Elsewhere it is very dance orientated although personally I love synths and electronic music so it is a bit of a treat in places (like the Tangerine Dream like ‘Time Travel 1′).
I doubt it will tap into many rock and metal fans but conversely it may turn some dub step and dance fans onto rock which can be no bad thing.
