Mob Rules are back, now a veteran of the metal scene having released their debut back in 1999. They pedal a decent style of power metal with a distinct Iron Maiden sound at times, mainly down to vocalist Klaus Dirks uncanny knack of sounding like Bruce Dickinson on the faster songs. The single ‘Fire & Ice’ features guest musician keyboardist Michael ‘Miro’ Rodenberg (Avantasia/Luca Turilli) who adds a more symphonic sound to the song. ‘Scream For The Sun’ is very Iron Maiden sounding as the band do a little epic metal and the song features lots of guitar. ‘Lost’ is a superb song – building nicely from a gentle intro to a crescendo of massed vocals and a soaring lead vocal. A song that easily sets them ahead of many fellow power metal bands.
A strong album on the whole but they lack that vital spark to really set their music ahead of the pack. Hopefully their next album will see them get the next step up in terms of success and exposure. Still it will please their fans I am sure.
