Pendragon release a new DVD (and their first Blu-Ray release), and although they have released DVD’s before this one adds some treats and many songs that have not made a DVD before. The bonus material includes an informative interview with mainman Nick Barrett and backstage footage filmed on the night of the show, which was filmed at the Wyspianski theatre in Poland. You also get a tour of their tour bus plus a look at the backstage rider and some err, unusual uses of it!
Musically the band are spot on, perhaps not the most mobile or visual of prog rock bands they let the music do the talking. The live version of ‘Comatose’ is worth getting the DVD for alone. Magnificent playing from Nick Barrett on guitar with some keyboard flurries from Clive Nolan. The epic ‘This Green and Pleasant Land’ is another showstopper, whilst ‘Paintbox’ sounds better than the album version (although to be fair I am a bigger fan of their later albums). The packed crowd certainly appreciate the music and with a varied set list touching on both old and new material this DVD will appeal to their many fans.
