Eagle Vision
Filmed on 20 November 1975 in Houston, Texas, this has only been available as a bootleg so this official release with remastered sound will please fans. Touring to promote the then current Who By Numbers album, the show covers songs from across their career in a show running to nearly 2 hours.
Opening with Substitute and I Can’t Explain, we then got the more recent Squeeze Box, then the wonderful classic Baba O’Riley (a track you will recognise). Daltrey is a great frontman in that not only is he a great rock singer but he moves around, talks to the crowd, introduces songs and has a sense of humour . Guitarist Townsend clearly enjoys the show and show’s why he’s so revered as a riff king. He also talks to the crowd. When he’s not posting, drummer Keith Moon only has 3 speed settings; frantic, frenetic and completely mental.
John Entwistle takes the front for his Boris The Spider, both John and Pete provide plenty of support to Daltrey.
Acid Queen and Pin Ball Wizard are two of several tracks from Tommy, and the band rock through Eddie Cochran’s Summertime Blues and of course their classics My Generation and Won’t Get Fooled Again.
The set is blistering throughout, the band are energetic, and Townsend riffs and solos and circles his right arm aplenty.
The video is excellent, if a little limited on camera angles, but for much bootlegged set it is the remixed sound that really stands out, with power and clarity.
Comes with a nice booklet too. Classic and good value.
