TRAIL OF MURDER – Shades Of Art

Metal Heaven www.aorheaven.com (Release date 29th October)

A new name but the band’s members have some real musical pedigree as you have vocalist Urban Breed (what a great name for a metal singer!) formerly of Tad Morose, who along with former band mate Danial Olsson, has hooked-up with Morgana Lefay drummer Pelle Akerlind. Bassist Johan Bergquist and guitarist Hasse Eismar round out the line-up.

As the band hail from Sweden you know writing hook filled metal tunes is in their DNA and they don’t disappoint. ‘Carnivore’ is a monster – from its riffs through to the chorus, reminding me a little of the mighty Evergrey. ‘Mab’ has a Dio feel, mainly in the guitar parts whilst ‘Your Silence’ sweeps with ease from light to shade, an enjoyable slice of melodic metal.

One of the album’s strengths is that the band don’t stick to one musical pace as ‘The Song You Never Sang’ could be modern day Europe meets Kamelot, melding melody and fast paced metal with ease. Despite the lack of keyboards the band can still bring the pace down on the chugging ballad ‘My Heart Still Cries’.

An accomplished debut and here’s hoping this band are in it for the long run, they just need to make sure no-one poaches Urban Breed as he has a classic metal vocal.
