BABYLON FIRE – Dark Horizons

Rocksector Records ( Release Date 12th Nov 2012)

Babylon Fire play heavy metal, pure and simple and it’s a fact the guys are rightly proud of. The Manchester 4 piece have been together for the past 5 years and gained support from none other than Bruce Dickenson via his BBC 6 rock show. Just as the band’s profile was on the rise they lost their guitarist which stalled their progress. This then is the band’s first step in what they hope will be a rise to the top.

As I say metal is their genre of choice and they make a decent fist of things. They are more Five Finger Death Punch than Maiden though, there is definitely a modern edge to the band’s sound. One of the best tracks on the album ‘Demonocracy’ is a fine example of this with a punishing rhythm section and a riff as heavy as a bag of spanners. Another standout is ‘Cycle Of Addiction’ which sneaks into Trivium territory with some very tasty guitar work.

If I had to nit-pick I would say the vocals could be a bit stronger, but they don’t detract from the overall package which should set the guys back on the right path. A good album which any metal fan would enjoy.
