Singles Bar: LIZ LAWRENCE, WILL MILES

WILL MILES – Shallow Water/Angela (Released 26th Nov)

Double A-side debut single by this London based singer songwriter who has self-produced this despite offers of help from the likes of Pedro Ferreira (The Darkness/Joe Strummer). Both songs are pleasant enough and his voice is fine but they lack that little spark of magic that will set these songs apart from a crowded field.

LIZ LAWRENCE – Bedroom Hero (Released 26th Nov)

She has already gained some rave reviews and radio airplay including on Absolute Radio. It is a lovely little tune, with Liz Lawrence’s voice at centre stage and a jaunty piano riff moving the song along nicely. Lyrically it looks at the bedroom songwriter and this deserves to be a hit, glorious stuff!

ENFANT – Border Of Mexico (Released 3rd December)

Not sure this electronic music duo will appeal to many readers of GRTR! although they have a slightly camp vocal sound that reminded me of Mika and Foxy Shazam (if the later threw away their guitars!). Sure it will sound great at maximum volume at a club night…

CHEMICAL SMILE – Thanks For The Company/Suede Glove (Released 26th Nov)

Interesting one this as the Chemical Smile have their musical feet in two camps – the 70′s and the Doors and the 80′s with the Smiths. The Smiths is mainly down to the vocals and the music with its emphasis on bass and distorted guitar is from the Doors musical book. ‘Thanks For The Company’ is worth a listen and based on these two songs Chemical Smile look set for a decent future.
