Activemedia (Release date – Out now)
Biker rockers Valve Rider have had a busy year, playing many biker festivals during their ‘Burning Rubber’ tour and finding time to record this, their debut album. The band play classic heavy rock with a blues influence which brings to mind Led Zep and Bad Company along with many other great bands.
The band were formed by guitarist Nathan Moore and his playing defines the band’s sound, whether he is chugging out fat riffs or playing blues licks it is all done with consummate ease. Opening track ‘The Judge’ sets the scene nicely with a Zep like riff and quality vocals provided by singer Adam Ward who sounds like a cross between Paul Rodgers and a young James Hetfield. Lyrically the songs deal with hard riding and hard lovin’, what else would you expect from a good biker band?
There are a few stand out tracks that merit a mention ‘Cross The Line’ which features some great slide guitar work, the driving blues of ‘Mine’s a Whisky’ and the short acoustic gem ‘You’ll Ride’ which closes the album and strays into Jethro Tull territory with an impressive Ian Anderson style vocal delivery.
This is an honest blues rock album with no frills, but loaded with top quality songs that will have you reaching for the repeat button. This record may propel Valve Rider onto the fastlane to the top.
