KRUK – Be 3

Metal Mind Productions www.metalmind.com.pl

New album by the Polish band Kruk who have made a name for themselves in their home country and this album will surely gain them wider notice. They love their classic 70′s hard rock, in particular Deep Purple, as can be heard on the driving Hammond on opener ‘Rising Anger’ (which also features as a bonus instrumental). ‘At The Desert’ shows a mellower side to the band and has a modern pop rock feel, very different to the rest of the album. ‘Master Blaster’ is a big hard rock meets metal song and features some growl vocals on the chorus. It reminded me of Snow Patrol in the first half of the song.,.

They show their appreciation of Deep Purple with a slowed down cover of ‘Child In Time’. They give it a slow jazzy/blues air and the vocals do reach the original high notes that Ian Gillan reached on the original. There are five bonus songs (all on the main album), two instrumental versions and three sung in their native Polish. The latter work well and ‘Jestem Bogiem’ (Master Blaster) sounds poppier somehow, that is until the growls kick in!

An enjoyable and varied album from a band who surely will get wider recognition on the back of this release.
