TANK – War Machine Live – DVD
Metal Mind Records (Release date – out now)
The most surprising thing for me when this DVD popped through the letter box was finding out the fact that Tank are still a functioning outfit in 2012. Not a name I had heard for a long time , I thought they had been relegated to the ‘where are they now’ section of the NWOBHM.
Tank 2012 features no original members, the current incarnation of the band having been built around guitarists Mick Tucker and Cliff Evans. Joining them on stage were Chris Dale on bass, Steve Hopgood on drums and current MSG singer Doogie White on vocals.
The DVD was recorded in Poland during 2011 and 2012 with the bulk having been recorded in the Stodola Club in Warsaw early in 2012. The guys put in a good, hard rock performance, White is a consummate frontman with a great voice and carries of all tracks with ease.
Kicking off with ‘This Means War’ the band are in good form. There are 12 tracks featured from this performance and for me the top tracks are ‘Judgement Day’ and ‘Great Expectations’ which are both classic metal tracks played at full pelt. Also featured on the disc is live footage from the Metal Hammer Festival in 2011, band interviews and promo videos.
On this DVD, Tank show that they are still as good and relevant as they were back in the early eighties. Perhaps not an essential purchase, but one that will keep you entertained if you take the plunge. One word of warning though, there are a couple of numbers where the backlighting on stage gets frenetic and the flashing makes the disc hard to watch, it really should come with a printed warning!
