ATTICA RAGE – 88MPH

Off Yer Rocka Recordings (Release date – out now)

88 MPH is the third album from Attica Rage following on from their 2011 release ‘Road Dog’ which gained the band a large following and increased their profile. With 88 MPH the guys have taken a back to basics approach, completing the album over a 6 week period and going for a more raw, stripped back sound.

Attica play straight forward blues based hard rock and make no apologies for that fact. The album opens with a quiet, acoustic passage entitled ‘From Dusk ‘Til Dawn’ before launching into ‘Beyond Forever’ which is a gusty, rocking track which sets the tone nicely. The twin guitar work of Jonny Parr and Stevie Bell is the main feature on all tracks, riding along on the pulsating rhythms provided by Ritchie Rage on drums and the band’s newest member, Colin Wilson, on bass.

One of the highlights of the album is up next in the shape of ‘Flight 180’ which I was lucky enough to hear live prior to the album being recorded and thankfully it has lost none of its impact on the record, testament to the fact that the album has that live, raw edge the guys were hoping to achieve. Other highlights across the 10 tracks on offer are ‘Killer Carousel’ which features some tasty bass work from Colin Wilson, the catchy ‘Aftershow’ and the epic ‘End Of An Era’ which features some excellent acoustic passages and great vocals from Jonny, destined to be a live favourite I think.

This album is an open and honest hard rock album with no frills or padding but with a huge heart created by four guys that live, sleep, eat and breath Attica Rage. They have produced the album they set out to create, some may see it as a backwards step in terms of outright production and polish, but it represents the Attica ethos perfectly and is all the better for it.  Gutsy hard rock at its best.
