Longfellow Deeds
Paperback Freud (not the most rock ‘n’ roll name it has to be said) formed back in 2002 and this is their third album. Like fellow Swedes Graveyard they tap into the 70′s classic rock sound of bands like Blue Oyster Cult (vocally), AC/DC and Kiss (riffs) and moving into the 80′s Guns ‘N’ Roses (lyrical).
Starting off with the title track the listener is swept back to the mid/late 70′s and a real Kiss feel to the music. ‘Shakin’ continues the 70′s vibe with some AC/DC approved riffs but Paperback Freud add their own twist on he slightly bizarre beat of ‘This Ain’t No Discotheque’. ‘Soul Eaters’ and ‘Writings On The Wall’ really reminded me of BOC, specifically the vocals of Buck Dharma and two definite album highlights.
Perfect for those who enjoy 70′s rock mixed with a modern sound and a few twists.
