Suicide Records
“Criminal Record” is the debut album from Norway’s Suicide Bombers, and is a solid slab of Scandinavian sleaze. The band have elected to give themselves characters (Sleaze Fuhrer, Sex Gunslinger, Bitch Commander and Outlaw Groover) and a background story, for some people this works for others, not so much- but if you look past this, and the intro/outro tracks, this is actually quite a strong album.
Tracks like “Easy Access” possess the melodic sleaze style of Hardcore Superstar, “Napalm Heart” and “This Time Tomorrow” remind me of The 69 Eyes before they went down the Goth route and there are even flashes of early Def Leppard (“High On Explosives”) and Pretty Boy Floyd (“Teenage Breakdown”). Others tracks such as “Smoke & Mirrors”, “Bombers En Vogue” and “Riot” show the potential the band have within the genre and all the usual required components are in place- guitar solos, backing vocals etc.
The notion of a rock band, particularly one outside of the mainstream, coming along and changing the world musically is one that does not work nowadays. However, it is albums like “Criminal Record” that keep fans of rock music ticking over in the meantime.
