AOR Heaven (Released 22nd February)
Heartbreak Radio are a spin-off from Last Autumn’s Dream and have released one other album to date back in 2005. They were formed to pay homage to the band members’ love of West Coast AOR and bands like Toto. There are plenty of guest vocalists on this new album including Alien’s Jim Jidhed and of course Mikael Erlandsson of Last Autumn’s Dream.
Songs like ‘Angeline’ featuring Erlandsson on vocals recall Toto circa their Joseph Williams era, whilst ‘My Heart’s Just Missing You’ is prime West Coast AOR that will delight fans of this musical style. Surprise performance comes on ‘You Don’t Love Me Anymore’ which has a jazzy feel and on vocals is Henrik Baath of prog metal band Dark Water. Certainly not a name you’d expect on an album like this and he pulls off one of the performances of the album.
Sheer aural delight for lovers of well crafted and polished AOR. Yes it is nothing new but then this style of music is all about the quality of the singer and songs, rather than pushing musical barriers. With a bit of luck we won’t have to wait quite so long for the next album.
