Self Release (Release Date – 29/04/13)
This is the debut EP by Hellbound Hearts, a group formed in mid 2011 by ex Terrorvision bassist Danny Lambert. Danny has moved from bass to guitar and vocals. He has also brought in Andy Black on drums and Jase Brooks on bass to complete the trio.
After a few false starts the band have settled on a punked up rock sound with a Wildhearts like melodic streak running through it. The first two tracks, ‘Outside’ and ‘Mr Cynical’, conform to the description perfectly and are good if uninspiring tracks. Things get more interesting though on the other two tracks, ‘Sinking Ships’ and ‘Hold Steady’, which are heavier, driving tracks that I think suit the band well and would go down a storm live.
This is a good debut that shows a lot of promise, especially in the latter half of the disc. The band will be touring through April to promote the EP and could well be worth catching live.
