Quick Plays: ROCKY SHADE’S WILDSIDE RIOT, CYANIDE 4

ROCKY SHADE’S WILDSIDE RIOT  – No Second Take

Livewire/Cargo

Formed in 2010 by former Wrathchild UK front man Rocky Shades, Wildside Riot are best described as a having a hard rock sound somewhere between the light end of NWOBHM and the modern crop of sleaze bands.

Live the band put on a decent show, as witnessed at 2012’s Hard Rock Hell festival, where the band played at eleven in the morning and put on a show most bands would be proud of performing at a more “traditional” time.

“No Second Take” is the band’s debut album and boasts highlights such as ”Wildside Riot”, “That’s What Sunday Mornings Are For”, “Angel On My Back”, “My Woman” and “Glitter Tramps” alongside ballad “Babe I Gotta Go”, opening track “All Hail The Wasted” and “Fukk ‘Em!”.

Not a bad debut album and it should keep the band busy for a year or two.

CYANIDE 4 – Every Day Is A Masquerade

Perris Records

Cyanide 4 look like every other band on the Sunset Strip in the late ‘80’s, the thing is, they were formed in 2008…in Greece. They look and sound authentic and clearly know their stuff as influences like early Crue, Poison, Vain, Ratt and even Pretty Boy Floyd can clearly be heard throughout debut album “Every Day Is A Masquerade”.

Opening with the energetic “Hide In The Shadow” the album’s highlights reflect the influences of the band- “Live The Life” has echoes of Vain, as does “F.F.L (Fresh Fucked look)”, whilst “Amesia” is Poison meets Pretty Boy Floyd. However, the album is no cheap mimic, “Illusion” is a big glam ballad, there is a superb guitar solo on “Anything For Fun” and “Parody” is certainly something Cyanide 4 are not. There is not a weak track amongst the 13 on the album and the remainder of the highlights include “Temptation Failed”, “Cyanide”, “Wasting My Time” and “Bad Love Parade”.

I have no doubt that being a Hollywood styled glam band in Greece  is no mean feat, but Cyanide 4 have already managed to open for the likes of The Scorpions, Crashdiet and W.A.S.P on home soil and judging by the standard of “Every Day Is A Masquerade”, I’d say the band could make a pretty big noise on mainland Europe too.
