Album review: KINGDOM COME – Outlier

Kingdom Come - Outlier

Kingdom Come’s new “Outlier” album could more accurately be credited as a Lenny Wolf solo effort as the band’s main man handles everything bar the guitar solos, these being provided by Eric Forster. Wolf also engineered, mixed and produced the album in his own Hamburg studio, and he has not made a bad job of it as “Outlier” mixes the classic Kingdom Come sound with a new modern direction for the band.

Opening track, and the album’s debut single, “God Does Not Sing Our Song” has gained a fair bit of radio airplay and finds the band sounding fresh and current, as does “Such a Shame” and ”Rough Ride Ralleye” the latter giving a nod to early ‘90’s U2.

“Let The Silence Talk” is standard Kingdom Come with jagged modern guitar, “The Trap Is Alive” is exactly what you would expect from the band and “Don’t Want You To Wait” has an overshadowing feel of doom and almost staggers like a wounded beast but with its stabs of guitar and off kilter drums is inoffensive enough to the ears.

Overall “Outlier” is a good album and one that should re-engage Kingdom Come with its audience, Wolf intended this to begin a new chapter for the band it certainly deserves to do just that.
