Album review: DANIELE LIVERANI – Fantasia

SG Records www.danieleliverani.com

Daniele Liverani is a very accomplished Italian guitarist and this latest instrumental album from him is very accessible and melodic. Joining Danielle are drummer Simon Ciccotti, bass player Nicolo Vese and on keyboards Marco Zago.

Lots of varying musical styles on this album from the cinematic feel of ‘Unbreakable’ through to the classic rock of ‘Daylight’, featuring a musical trade off between Daniele’s guitar soloing and some sassy Hammond organ playing by Marco. ‘Outstanding’ is another hard rocker that could easily have a vocalist singing on top of the tune.

‘Gigantic’ sounds like it belongs on a Joe Satriani album, again some neat keys on this one complementing the guitars and drums nicely. The mellower side of his playing can be heard on ‘Black Horse’, a laid back tune with Clapton-esque playing.

Guitar instrumental albums are a niche market and don’t normally have mass appeal bar a few notables like Vai, Gilbert and Satriani. However, this album given a fair listen will be enjoyed by many I am sure. Good band effort on this album with the guitar often sharing the limelight with the keyboards or drums to keep melody the main musical driver.
