Album number eight from Freedom Call and a couple of line-up changes with a new drummer Ramy Ali, along with the return of original bass player Ilker Irsin. I have to admit Freedom Call are one of the better bands I have discovered in the twelve years I have been writing for Get Ready To ROCK! They appeal to fans of Gamma Ray and Helloween and for consistency they beat both of those bands.
This album is much more upbeat lyrically and from the opener ‘Union Of The Strong’ it’s one pleasurable power metal ride! Unlike their last couple of albums it does take a little longer for some songs to hit spot, although the parptastic keyboard horns that herald ‘Knights Of Taragon’ is one of the band’s most instant songs and outdoes Gamma Ray on the harmony filled choruses.
Plenty of sing-a-long metal on here from ‘Come On Home’ – loving the drums on this one – through to ‘Journey Into Wonderland’, with those parping keys back again and more rifftastic fun. Not too sure about the synth bagpipes effect on ‘Beyond Destiny’ though!
The title track sees them flex their musical muscles, with a string filled ballad paced intro through to the speed metal bulk of the song. Bit of a departure as this song clocks in at over seven minutes yet most songs on the album are under four minutes long.
Freedom Call deliver both on album and live, long may they continue. Grab a copy of this fine album and see what lies beyond… ****1/2
