DVD review: JULIAN LENNON – Through The Picture Window

www.julianlennon.com

This is a fascinating DVD, although you can get lost in the novel menu set up based on an art gallery. The DVD features his latest album ‘Through The Picture Window’, which has been turned into a visual album as each song now has a specially made video. They feature landscapes, clever montages of images and even the man himself Julian Lennon pops-up now and again. Some of the album is also featured in acoustic mode.

The documentary is a fascinating look at how Julian Lennon ticks musically, featuring interviews with himself – he comes across as a very humble person and one not all a fan of the way the music industry works. In fact the big gaps between his albums are mainly due to his mistrust of the way the music industry works, still when he does release new music it is always of high quality and enjoyable.

Other interviews on the documentary feature Bono (he’s full interview is a bonus feature and he gives a keen insight on Julian Lennon), Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler and cult AOR star Mark Spiro, who has worked for many years with Julian Lennon.

If you have the album and are a fan this DVD is a no brainer to buy, although not sure you would watch the feature length documentary more than a couple of times. Still the visual album videos are ones you can watch over and over, helped by the wonderful music they are based on.
