Album review: STAN BUSH – The Ultimate

Stan Bush - The Ultimate

MelodicRock Records www.MelodicRockRecords.com [Release date 17.03.14]

Stan Bush is back with another fine melodic rock album and yes there is another revamp of ‘The Touch’ from ‘The Transformers’ movie, this time with a more electro edge. That’s not the only old tune getting a new coat of aural paint as ‘Thunder In Your Heart’ (originally recorded by John Farnham) sounds like a movie soundtrack hit given the Stan Bush magic.

The whole feel of the album is like an updated collection of movie songs as Stan Bush taps into that melodic rock feelgood factor in his music, be it the soaring choruses on ‘Heat Of The Battle’ or the keys/vocals bliss that is ‘The Journey’.

A song like ‘Stand In The Fire’ is what good melodic rock is all about – a big chorus, big guitar and keys sound and even bigger vocals. If this had been the 80′s this song would have been a shoe-in on a Spielberg movie soundtrack. That’s not to say it’s dated musically, it just reminds the listener of classic 80′s melodic rock anthems.

His album under the Barrage handle is still the best album to bear his name, however this album gives it a good challenge and then some. An essential buy for his fans without a doubt.  ****
