EP Review: MONSTER JAW – Get A Tattoo

Monster Jaw - Get A Tattoo

Cobra Kitten Records [Release date 30.06.14]

Monster Jaw are a trio from the north of England who formed back in 2013. The band was built around frontman and songwriter Mik Davis whose influences range from The Jesus and Mary Chain to Nirvana with a bit of The Pixies thrown in for good measure.

Fuzzed up indie rock is the order of the day here with opening track ‘Get A Tattoo’ sounding like the Smashing Pumpkins in laid back mode. ‘ Summer Girl’ is a bit more upbeat but again doesn’t set the heather alight, whilst ‘We Don’t Care About Anything’ shows that the band can rock when they are in the mood.

This was not my thing but I can see the merits and no doubt fans of The Pixies and The Smashing Pumpkins would get more from this EP than I did.  **1/2
