Album review: CARPET ROOM – A Kind Of Malice

Carpet Room - A Kind Of Malice

Self Release   [Release date - Out Now]

Carpet Room, a four piece from Trier in Germany ( Germany’s oldest city apparently ) have released ‘A Kind Of Malice’ their second album. They were formed in 2007 by Jorg Henz and Rosario Avanzato, and they seriously rock!

The album immediately bursts into life with ‘Unmasked’, a full on melodic, hard and heavy anthem. It rockets on with enthusiasm, fast and furious. The album rushes on, each track as good as the last.

Apparently the band wrote fifteen songs for this album but fine-tuned it down to ten for the final playlist. The musicianship on offer here is first class, Jorg on drums, Micha Heinisch on guitar, Max Huber on bass and Rosario on vocals and guitar, obviously they know their stuff.

Every song here is well crafted, melodic, heavy, rocking and well mixed. Ten tracks is about the right length for this album, you are carried along with the music and don’t feel bored by half way through, a sign of a good CD.

Track six, ’Feel This Pain’ has a good rock and roll feel to it in the end section, a little bit ZZ Top ish maybe , a band who are hard to pigeonhole perhaps? Track ten, ‘Ready To Fade’, ends with a bit of Spanish guitar, a change to the rest of the album, it takes you a bit by surprise.

If I had to pick fault with anything it would be the miserable lyrics but you know what to expect with titles like ‘Decades of Hate’ and ‘Souls on Fire’, luckily I can rarely distinguish the words on any song so I just enjoy the music and there is plenty of that to enjoy here.

This is a good album by a good band, one to try if you like your metal loud, hard and melodic.
