Album review: FURYKANE – Furykane

Furykane - Furykane

Self Release  [Release date -  Out Now]

Furykane are an alternative rock/metal band from France. Comprising of Jen (vocals), Max (guitar), Quentin (bass) and Romain (drums), they formed in 2006 and this is their second album.

Furykane claim to be influenced by SoundGarden, Alice in Chains and Limp Bizkit among others.  This is an energetic, powerful album full of driving rhythms and strong bass.

Jen’s vocals are excellent, shouting and screaming one moment and tuneful singing the next. The vocals suit the music well, matching the powerful guitar work of Max with staccato passages being particularly memorable as in the song ‘Hard Cookie’.

‘Lullaby’, is a repetitive little number with a quieter passages and loud, blasted chorus and then, changing direction slightly ‘Dive’ has an almost poppy chorus. The best track on the album though is the final one, the afore mentioned ‘Hard Cookie’, here you can hear the LimpBizkit influence with chanted lyrics making this song the one which sticks in your head.

All in all a pretty good album, Furykane sound like a band who know the sound they are after and how to deliver it.  ***1/2
